Dispute Resolution in Russia and Japan: Open Discussions in Vladivostok

On 31 May  2019, Kie Matsushima (Associate, Anderson Mori & Tomotsune, Japan) and Andrey Gorlenko (Executive Administrator, Russian Arbitration Center at the Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration) held a joint lecture on the topic “Legal profession and means of dispute resolution in Japan and Russia” at the Law School of Far Eastern Federal University (Russky Island, Vladivostok).

Kie Matsushima told students about the Japanese judicial system, division of lawyers in Japan, the Japanese legal education system and the reform of legal representation that took place in Japan from 2003 to 2014.

On 3 June 2019, the workshop “Means of dispute resolution in Japan and Russia” was held at the Far Eastern Division of the Russian Arbitration Center in Vladivostok.  Representatives of Japanese business community with branches in Primorsky region and lawyers from Vladivostok attended the event.

Kie Matsushima presented on the topic “General means of dispute resolution in Russia” and shared her view with regard to the Russian judicial system and alternative dispute settlement, as well as provided some practical guidance on the conclusion of international agreements. Andrey Gorlenko, in his turn, told about the results of arbitration reform in Russia and the main features and advantages of dispute resolution in the Russian Arbitration Center.
